‐Our Community:
“Golf to Fight Hunger” Golf Tournament:
This first Saturday in October golf event raises
money to help local and regional hunger needs. Syracuse Country Club gives all the
golfers super discounts to play 18 holes of golf, a meal and door prizes and flag prizes
which are contributed. Combined with the golfer fees of $40 we have raised over a
$1000 each year of this event. You don’t even have to be a Lutheran to play.
Food Pantry:
Members of Luther Memorial are invited to help serve and contribute to
the Syracuse Community Food Pantry, which was begun by Luther Memorial to meet
the needs of those in need of nutria and health essentials. Anyone who lives in the
Syracuse area may receive help.
Backpack Club:
Every Thursday backpacks of food for the weekend will be prepared to
give to needy elementary kids to take home and help feed themselves and their
families. The backpacks will be handed out on Friday after school and returned on
Monday during the school year.
Music for Manna:
Music groups from near and far put on a one hour concert the first
Sunday in November to help raise money for those both in and outside the community.
An ice cream social happens during intermission and the free will offering is match by
Thrivent for Lutherans and other church memorials and endowments.
German Fest Worship:
The Syracuse Community German Fest Worship concludes this
annual celebration of the German Heritage of the folks who settled in this region of
Nebraska. This ecumenical event is a great way to end the excellent festivities that are
a part of Syracuse’s German Fest Weekend.
Living Nativity:
This community wide production of the Christmas Story takes place in
the animal display arena of the Kimmel building, in other words a huge heated barn.
Folks of all ages help to put on this dramatic presentation of the Days leading up to the
birth of Christ, the First Nativity and the coming of the Wise men. Christmas hymns,
angels, shepherds, and a manger with live animals make the Christmas Story literally
come alive.
