Luther Memorial Church

Confirmation

Confirmation in the Lutheran Church is a public profession of faith prepared for by long and careful instruction. In English, it is called "affirmation of baptism", and is a mature and public reaffirmation of the faith which "marks the completion of the congregation's program of confirmation ministry".

Confirmation Program

All young people, grades 6th through 8th,

are invited to learn about God’s Word, the Sacraments, the Theology of the Lutheran Church and how we can serve God and neighbors in profound ways. After completing the confirmation program each young person has the privilege of affirming their faith as an adult member of Luther Memorial. Confirmation class meets every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00pm.

At the end of their 7th grade year they engage in a weekend retreat to explore deeper the connections of their faith and the world.

Confirmation Sunday School

During our Sunday School hour our Middle School youth can take time to engage in a creative look our faith through the Sparkhouse  re:form series. This is a multiyear sequence where we take time to explore the Old Testament Ancestors, the New Testament Ancestors, and gain a deeper understanding of our Lutheran Faith, Lord's Prayer, and the Apostle's Creed.

These lessons follow materials created by Sparkhouse Family Publishing.

This year we are taking a look at some of the key characters and individuals from the Bible that we call our faith Ancestors.

Here is what Sparkhouse has to say:

Re:form is a youth faith-formation series with the one-two punch of real laughs and real substance.

First, youth encounter a concept from the historic Christian faith with the Re:form DVD.

Next, the Re:form Workbook activities get youth interacting with each other, their Bible, and exploring their faith in creative ways.

Re:form: Ancestors takes a closer look at Bible heroes, villains, and everyday folks that God selected to do extraordinary things.

Their strengths, their weaknesses, and their idiosyncrasies are all explored in fine detail, with a cheeky sense of humor,

and without pulling any punches. After all, they were human just like the rest of us.

Re:form: Traditions gives youth the tools they need to deeply explore their particular faith tradition with witty videos, engaging individual and group activities. Traditions is designed to be used alongside your current curriculum, in settings like confirmation classes where additional denominational-specific materials are covered. We assembled the dream team of Methodist, Reformed, and Lutheran theologians, pastors, and practitioners from across the country to create Re:form Traditions. Together, they provided historical accuracy, a theological framework, and translated it all into fun activities and language that speaks to today’s youth.
